Fun Loving Old Roswell Mill & Downtown Roswell Engagement Session - Roswell Wedding Photographer

This engagement session is in the books as one of my favorites. It was shot in 2017, but I wanted to repost it, because it’s simply adorable, and both Alex & Curtis were pretty confident during their shoot, they were easy to direct in posing, and they were so much fun to capture! Alex had done her research and she pretty much knew what she wanted. She chose Downtown Roswell because that was a place that they usually hung out and went out for dates at. We did hit Old Roswell Mill first, which was nice, they had their formal outfits on first and we got some great shots there, but there were so many people there that we quickly moved on to Downtown Roswell. Alex knew about this ice cream shop [ which I think is closed now :( ] but we got ice cream and went outside, where I spotted that mint green truck with the sun setting behind it (perfect timing - I thought) and immediately went for it! Eventually we ended up on one of the home/shops porch for our final photos across the street. Their photo with the ice cream in Downtown Roswell was one of the highest reposted photos i’ve ever taken. It got published on Shootproof, TwoBrighLights, and many other wedding publications. Even a year later I would be receiving emails from random publications that ran across their photo with the ice cream in front of the green truck wanting to repost and use it on their site. The point I’d like to make is that the reason why their engagement session was so amazing, fun and in the end reposted by many wedding publications was because they took the time before their engagement session to plan something fun! They planned and coordinated their outfit, they researched fun ideas on Pinterest, they ran their ideas by me (their photographer) and most importantly they allowed themselves to be loving and goofy in front of the camera for the world to see!

I wanted to share this because literally every couple I speak with tells me how awkward they are in front of the camera! THAT’S OKAY!!! SO AM I !!! Everyone is! If you do anything for the first time, you’re gonna be awkward. I mean if you ask me to be a part of your job one day - I would be awkward, or even to just shadow you, I would be totally AWKWARD! BUT the point is, I wouldn’t go in to your job unprepared not knowing anything about it, I would probably Google a couple of things first, so I don’t look completely clueless! The point is, as a photographer, I will guide you and pose you and give you fun prompts to get you from feeling awkward and stiff — BUT it’s also up to you to understand and come prepared to YOUR OWN shoot! The more prepared you are, the better your photos will come out because you will know exactly what I mean when I tell you to “get really close and almost kiss - but don’t kiss yet” — you will know what that is supposed to look like.. You will know that “Duck lips” aren’t flattering in photos and so many other common prompts that we use to get to our finished product. Obviously we can tell you not to do the ‘kissy lips’, but if we are having to literally tell you how to move and don’t move every inch of your body it will take us away from guiding you into another level of fun and creative poses that can take your engagement photos from just GOOD to AMAZING!

There are so many blog posts and youtube videos on posing and engagement photos on Pinterest…it’s so easy to just spend 5 mins. on Google to get an idea of what you are getting yourself into. Doing that will ensure that you will have an overall better experience, another level of guidance from your photographer, and more experienced posing. Hope this helps with your next shoot! :)
